Pennsylvania wins USGA State Team with WPGA’s best

Steady golf by Sean Knapp, Nathan Smith, and Mike Van Sickle led Pennsylvania to its first USGA State Team Championship at the CC of St. Albans near St. Louis.  Their 141-136-140–417 total in the three players count two scores format edged Kansas by three as they recorded 420.  The highest score any of the players recorded was 74.

The key round was the second as Kansas slumped to 152 after leading the first round with 134, while Smith and Van Sickle each carded 68 for 136. The Pennsylvania team had a weather break in round two while Kansas played in morning rains. Bryan Norton, a Kansas player who shot 67 in the final round, was runner-up in the 2003 USGA Mid-Amateur to Smith at Wilmington CC, Delaware.

Details are available on the web sites of the USGA and Pennsylvania Golf Association.

Congratulations to our national champions.
