Sewickley’s Carol Semple Thompson, often a member of the Curtis Cup team, has many playing highlights in these matches between the USA and Great Britain/Ireland, including sinking the match clinching putt on the home hole at Fox Chapel in 2002. At Nairn, Scotland, June 8-10, she was on hand as a spectator, rooting for the American team after being its captain recently.
That all changed on Friday afternoon when Captain Pat Cornett slipped and broke her ankle. Thompson was named interim captain for the afternoon Foursome matches while Cornett had her ankle attended to. Cornett returned to her duties on Saturday for the remainder of the match.
