Boughner begins WPGA Presidency

James Boughner, Youghiogheny, was elected WPGA President during the Association’s Annual Meeting at South Hills Country Club on October 7.

Boughner was first appointed to the Executive Committee in 2004 and served as chair of the Championship Committee for three years. He is also a member of the USGA Junior Championship Committee. His golf record includes three club championships at Youghiogheny and two runners-up in the WPGA Father & Son Championship with his father Richard.

An honors graduate from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, he holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and is Vice-President of Financial Planning for The Beechwood Company in Pittsburgh. His parents and two sisters are also OSU graduates. He begins his presidency twenty years after his late father, Richard, served the Association as President.

He replaces Gary Evans, South Hills, who served as WPGA President 2012-13 and was a member of the Executive Committee 2006-13.

In addition to Boughner, the new officers are Tim Fitzgerald, Oakmont, Vice-President, Ronald Moelher, Chartiers, Secretary, and Mark Caliendo, Montour Heights, Treasurer.

Newly elected to the Executive Committee are Timothy R. Gatti, Indiana, and Terry Kenny, South Hills. In addition the Evans, Scott Phillis, The Country Club (Meadville), retired from the committee.

Reelected to the Executive Committee were Paul Gerlach, Shannopin; Claudette Graham, Diamond Run; Joe Hughes, Penn State; Dan Johnston, Treasure Lake; Don Lamb, St. Clair; Randall McCombs, Fox Chapel; Tim Nettles, Rolling Hills; Bob Paris, Erie, PA; Duncan Sargent, Oakview; Tim Slavish, Pittsburgh Field Club; James Toras, St. Clair; Colleen VanDruff, Green Oaks; and Rud VanHorn, Hickory Heights.
