Strong turnout, exchanges at Fox Chapel session

The Association conducted a workshop on February 22 at Fox Chapel Golf Club, “Promoting the Game & Business of Golf.” The event, morning sessions concluded with lunch, was well attended by 33 Member Clubs and 85 persons. The group was a 1/3 mix each of WPGA official family members, (Executive Committee, Club Reps, and committee members), Member Club senior staff – General Managers, Professionals, and Golf Course Superintendents; and club officials such as board and committee members. Overall attendance numbers were similar to the Association’s key membership meetings – Club Rep Day in the Spring and the Annual Meeting in the Fall.

The program included general sessions of Association overview and the inaugural Hall of Fame induction video. The breakouts were on the WPGA’s core programs of championship, handicapping, membership and the Scholarship Fund. The breakouts opened with brief program outlines followed by exchanges of views, questions & answers, and clarifications.

WPGA Executive Director Jeff Rivard observed, “We were able to provide basics to Member Clubs and receive valuable feedback in return. We also identified several new members for Association committees.”

Making presentations were President Jim Boughner, Youghiogheny; past president David Kuhar, Ebensburg; Bob Barrett, Madison Club, Course Rating Review Committee Chair; Tim Slavish, Pittsburgh Field Club, Membership Committee Chair, Paul Gerlach, Shannopin, Scholarship Committee Chair, and Gary Evans, South Hills, past president. In addition to Rivard, staff members Terry Teasdale, Handicap Director and Matt Rusinko, Championship Committee, participated in the Membership, Championship, and Handicap breakouts with committee representatives.
