Five inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Golf Hall of Fame

At a dinner held on October 16 at Oakmont Country Club with just over 170 on hand, the Class of 2014 was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Golf Hall of Fame. The 2014 class includes Frank Fuhrer, Jr., Dorothy Campbell Hurd, Carl Kauffmann, Jim Simons, and Roy Vucinich.

Fuhrer and Vucinich attended, accepted their mementos and commented upon their being honored. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette golf writer Gerry Dulac emceed the Hall of Fame program and introduced Mr. Fuhrer. Hall of Fame committee chair Jim Toras introduced Roy Vucinich.

The Class of 2014 are joined by William C. Fownes, Jock Hutchison, Arnold Palmer, Carol Semple Thompson and Lew Worsham.

Prior to dinner and following the opening reception, this year’s players of note were honored. Players of the year were Nicklaus Cuny, Junior, Don Erickson, III, and Paul Schlachter, Senior, and Nathan Smith, Player of the Year. Champions, Honor Roll players, and others who distinguished themselves were recognized.
